The Tidal Basin with Cherry Blossoms from the U.S.A.

There are more than 3000 cherry trees that bloom all over Washington DC each spring and many tourists come to see them every year during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The trees were a gift from the Japanese government in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the people of the United States. The two stamps, showing a panoramic view of the trees in blossom, were issued in 2012 by the US Postal Service and commemorated the centennial of that gift. The stamp on the left shows the Washington Monument in the background, while the Jefferson Memorial is shown on the stamp to the right.
