Vatican City is the smallest state of the world. At the time I am writing this post, the current sovereign is Pope Benedict XVI, who is depicted on the postcard on the right, while on the left there is his predecessor Pope John Paul II. In 2011, the Philatelic and Numismatic Office has celebrated the beatification of John Paul II with a joint issue with Poland, his native land.
