In 2010 DeutschePost issued this stamp to promote the maritime environmental protection. The EU member states are following the Marine Strategy Framework Directive issued in 2008, which states that it is required to take all necessary measures in order to achieve by 2020 a good maritime environmental status. All the proceeds from this stamp have been invested into projects to support the actions of the federal government to protect the oceans. Long life to the seals!
